History
Belfast United was formed by a group of employees of the Probation Board for Northern Ireland (N.I.) in 1987. In 1995 they obtained promotion from the N.I. Women’s Football Association Division 2 and then reconstituted themselves as Belfast United. Throughout the 21st century the Club has arguably been the most successful women’s football Club in N.I., competing in the UEFA Women’s Cup competition in two of the last three years as league champions of Northern Ireland.
Belfast United has its roots in the East / South Belfast area, although it draws players from a much wider geographical area. The Club has a strong link with Glentoran Football Club and is the 'female' wing of that Club.
