GBU Big Deal Tournament
Glentoran Belfast United junior squad hosted a football tournament in conjunction with the Lottery's Big Deal.
The tournament comprised of an Under 11 and an Under 13 section. The competition was played in a fantastically well mannered and spirited nature and even the odd downpour failed to dampen the eagerness of everyone present.
Each game was highly competitive with every team trying their best to pick up the winner's trophy.
The Under 11 section saw Lisburn Distillery crowned as winners and the Under 13 honours went to Celtic Girls.
GBU staff would take this opportunity to thank everyone from players to volunteers who helped make the tournament a success.

GBU Junior Team Awards
The awards evening was held in Tony Roma’s and the coaching staff were extremely pleased to see a large turnout of not only players but also family and friends. After a fabulous meal everyone made their way to the Malone Lodge for the awards presentation.
The coaching staff reviewed the year and spoke highly of the vast improvements that had taken place both on and off the field. Thanks went to the loyal parents and supporters and also to the tireless efforts of the many people who work in the background to ensure that GBU juniors exist.
Each player sat and listened with interest to the coaches well penned words but really all they wanted to do was meet the guest of honour. Who could blame them because the guest of honour was none other than Glentoran’s Sean Ward who took time out of his busy schedule to present the girls with their awards.
At GBU juniors each player contributes in her own way to the success of the team and this was recognised by the presentation of a trophy to every player.
Two individual awards were presented with the GBU Managers Player of the Year 2008 going to Rebecca aka Baby Becks and the prestigious GBU Players Player of the Year 2008 going to the popular and very talented Megan.
Maura Muldoon, chairperson of GBU, spoke very highly of the junior set up and further enhanced the evening by displaying both league cups which had been won recently by the senior squads.
The evening concluded with the coaching staff thanking everyone for their continuing support.

Bag packing at Connswater
A number of juniors, seniors, parents and GBU coaching staff recently participated in two sessions of bag packing in aid of club funds.
A big thank you to Connswater Shopping Centre management, Tesco management and Boots management all of whom were absolutely fabulous and ensured that the entire squad were well looked after and without the help of these wonderful people the fundraising would not have been possible.
The fund-raising event was boosted due to the generosity of Joshua and Victor Carson who won the Halfers draw at a recent Glentoran game.
Joshua and Victor very kindly donated £100 to GBU women's football club.
Also a thank you to each business and indeed every individual who donated to the GBU fund-raising event.
Your generousity is very much appreciated.

Well done the Juniors
GBU junior squad are going from strength to strength and for the first time in their history they were able to field two teams in the Dale Farm Festival.
The teams were entered in the under 11 and under 13 sections and played very impressive football which resulted in both teams progressing to the semi-final in their respective sections.
Both teams were beaten by the eventual outright winners of the competition and inspite of the wet weather spirits were certainly not dampened and each player is to be commended on a solid performance.
Training resumes on 22nd September so let us all get down to hard work and perhaps next year GBU will be the winners.
